Preamble

A group of ten of us went over, about 18 months before we’d gone into the FIFA ballot for tickets and got allocated 36 tickets between us, which when the draw was done turned out to vary from the sublime (Brazil and England games) to the ridiculous (2 different Togo games). Obviously we chose to support Togo.

I had to leave at 4am on the Saturday to get the flight – returning from the pub the night before at around midnight – for some reason I decided to check my e-mail to find an message from FIFA allocating me 4 more tickets for the Brazil v Japan game – which was nice – but I imagine plenty of other people were allocated tickets after leaving and therefore ended up paying for seats they didn’t use.
